| Basic Criminal Investigations Highly Qualified TEXAS Instructors Uses an easy to understand investigation process - ADEPT Forty Hours of Solid Instruction creating ADEPT Investigators TOPICS include ADEPT - Assessment Development Execution Perpetrator Apprehension Trial - Prosecution CASES applying the ADEPT process - BMV Class A Assault Sexual Assault - Known & Unknown Assailants Serial Rape Statement Analysis Investing Deception - An Introduction Legal Aspects Courtroom Demeanor This 40 hour foundation course takes participants through everything that investigators wish they had known before they got the job. New investigators become ADEPT applying five major principals of investigation - Assessment, Development, Execution, Perpetrator Apprehension to Trial & Prosecution. Basic Investigations class takes officers from the first day of stepping into the shoes of an investigator by learning how to best prioritize cases to using the principals to investigate real life cases. Cases include BMV, Burglary, Class “A” Assault, Sexual Assault, Serial Rapist and more where participants have the luxury of learning the ropes from seasoned investigators. Instructors for this class are both with the Irving Police Department. Additional instructors include Jill McAfee for an introduction to SAID - Statement Analysis Investigating Deception & Sonny McAfee on legal aspects with an introduction on courtroom demeanor. Detective James Hallum is one of RMI’s most sought after trainers due to his 26 years of experience, ability as an instructor and personality. He has taught rookie courses for veteran officers over the past 9 years. He has made presentations to civic groups, various public schools to all age levels, as well as currently being an Adjunct Instructor for Tarrant County College. In addition, Detective Hallum worked with and instructed Interview and Interrogation for the Shaken Baby Alliance of North Texas. Detective Hallum has worked hundreds of assaults, aggravated assaults, aggravated sexual assaults and countless misdemeanor “pervert crimes” such as window peepers and exhibitionists. He worked as an undercover narcotics investigator as well as serving on the DEA Task Force at DFW. Detective Hallum served as the lead investigator on capital murder cases and murder cases, and assisted in the investigation of the “Texas 7” and Mi-T Fine Car Wash cases. Detective Hallum was the lead investigator on numerous officer involved shootings, including one that involved 7 officers and a large outdoor crime scene. Jill Randolph McAfee, President of RMI is an advanced certified international law enforcement planner & life long educator. She has a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters degree in Educational Supervision with certifications in psychology, social and biological sciences. Ms. McAfee is a statement analysis expert having conducted jury screening and trial consulting on criminal cases for the state including injury to a child, gang writing, police department internal affairs investigations, aggravated sexual assault, investigation of poison pen letters (threat communiques), murder and capital murder. She has developed Statement Analysis Investigating Deception - SAID© - which is a process of analyzing statements searching for clues of truthfulness as well as detecting deception. Her extensive studies include Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Behavior, Psycholinguistics, Statement Analysis as conducted by the FBI, and Scientific Content Analysis from its founder, Avinoam Sapir. As Director of the Children's Advocacy Center of Smith County, she worked with law enforcement, prosecutors, the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, local hospitals and the mental health community unifying their efforts into a successful team. While in Bosnia - Herzegovina Jill formed an International Task Force that coordinated the first Criminal Procedure Code Train the Trainer program reaching 12,000 officers. Currently she teaches Cultural Diversity, Statement Analysis Investigating Deception, Visual Clues in Handwritten Statements to Behavior, Sexual Predation – Clues to Deception in Statements and Train the Trainer Programming. Wiley B. (Sonny) McAfee, Vice President of RMI retired from Houston Police Department after working twenty years in patrol, helicopters, narcotics, internal affairs and homicide. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 129th session. After retiring from HPD Sonny practiced law as a briefing attorney on the First Court of Appeals of Texas. He has also been a prosecutor, legal advisor for Irving Police Department, and a consultant for the Department of Justice ICITAP in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania.
