It was something he SAID©…
By using someone’s own words, Statement Analysis Investigating Deception (SAID) will help
you detect deception in any verbal or written communication. SAID is a process for turning the
raw information in a statement into usable intelligence.  SAID helps you determine whether
the subject is concealing information, providing false information, omitting information and
other important factors indicative of truthful or deceptive statements.

This 3 day, twenty four hour course covers detecting deception in statements through a
simple, systematic, reliable process. Anyone who needs to get to the truth of the matter
benefits from this course.  The introductory course, covers foundation principles for detecting
deception in statements through a systematic, reliable process.   Real life cases as well as
entertaining activities increase the usefulness of this course. One participant said, "I have had
several other courses on this same material, this course was so much more in depth as noted
in the title and covered so much more areas of interest.  The color coding system taught in this
course really makes the statements' deception POP."

This program advances the analysis process using a common sense, easily understandable,
sequential approach. The SAID Analysis Form simplifies the process allowing the analyst to
easily keep track of information.  The forms note whether the subject is concealing any
information, possible information that may be concealed, where the statement shows
deception and more.

SAID uses a unique triad approach incorporating content analysis, forensic linguistics and
visual handwritten clues to uncover important clues hidden in statements.  A special third day
was added at the request of participants for one extra day of practice with a Smith County
capital murder case analysis including oral statements on video.  The instructor and
participants share successful techniques used in other investigations.

TOPICS INCLUDE:
Deception Busters                                •  High Profile Case Studies

•  The Power of Pronouns                        •  Mapping the Statement

•  Intention of the Statement                  •  Brain Edits

•  How Tense Matters                               •  Balancing the Statement

•  Deception Indicators that Signal Follow Up Questions to Pursue

•  Basic Visual Clues of Deception in Handwritten Statements

Jill Randolph McAfee is a statement analysis expert as well as a certified Advanced International Law
Enforcement Planner and Instructor.  She has used SAID© extensively in consulting for hiring, police
department internal affairs investigations, poison pen letter investigations, criminal investigations,
assaults, interviews, gang writing,  interrogations, consulting on criminal cases for the state including
capital murder, murder, injury to a child, and aggravated sexual assault. Jill has studied Scientific Content
